Scott Reed is in his ninth year as head coach of the men's water polo program. Reed guided the Colonials men's team to 14 victories in 2006, the most for the program since he assumed head coaching duties in 1998. He also is the first and only head coach of the GW women's water polo team, which competed in its inaugural season in the spring of 2000.
Reed came to GW from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, VA, where he served as the head water polo coach and as an assistant coach with the university's men's and women's swimming teams.
He graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1994 with a bachelor of science degree in sport management. At Massachusetts, Reed served as a captain on the nationally ranked Minutemen's water polo squad and also competed on the swim team. He still owns the Massachusetts school record in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:30.65.
Reed served as a graduate assistant in aquatics at Eastern Kentucky University, where he received a master of science degree in sport administration in 1997. He is a member of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) board of directors and earned CWPA Southern Division Coach of the Year honors in 2002-03.
Reed lives in Fairfax, VA, with his wife, Allison.
